The Night Of the Hunter

The Night of the Hunter, the beginning and the end of Charles Laughton's career as a director, is a intriguing tale with some very dramatic cinematography, great characters and themes that make for a compelling narrative

The Night of the Hunter is a dramatic compelling film with an interesting storyline which barked the beginning and end of Charles Laughton's directing career.

The film is based on Ben Harper whom is sentenced to death for his part in a robbery in which two men were killed. But before he is caught he hides the money, entrusting only his son with the whereabouts of the money. Sometime after the character Harry Powell a self pro claimed preacher who believes the that Ben Harper's children must be counseling the stolen money and approaches and then marries Ben Harper's widow to get closer to his goal of finding the stolen money.

This was a very good film and the lighting and composition of the film was immaculate. There was a very strong use of bold dark silhouettes which really did build up suspense and show the tension of the movie.
