I found the 1963 original of the The Haunting by Robert Wise to be a traditional classic Horror film. What makes the film so effective is not so much the slightly sinister characterization of the neurotic group, but the fact that the film makes the house itself out to be the central character. Which is what i would say gave the film its highly atmospheric entity. The use of light really did build up the tension in the film along with the sound effects and the creepy noises. I no most horror films are far fetched and really typical and lack in storyline but i think this was a good film.
